At STL Design and Build, we are of the opinion that by looking back we can see what’s in store for our future. This is why a retrospective on the trends of the past year can give us a glimpse of what can happen in the next, or at least give us an idea of where we’re headed.
Home remodeling contractors like us find that Houzz’s home remodeling trends study is one of the best ways to read the previous year’s movements. We’ll condense it even further in today’s post and give you the salient bits of the report in terms of bathroom remodeling.
Showering Attention
Four out of five homeowners report overhauling the shower system during a bathroom remodel. Of those four, over half increase shower size. This is interesting, as fewer than 25 percent increase the bathroom’s size, which means the shower is becoming the centerpiece of any bathroom more than the tub.
Relaxation Is In
Now more than ever, most Americans are using their bathrooms to take a breather. In fact, Houzz’s survey found that nearly half (45 percent) of respondents relax in their bathrooms. This is why in 2018 and 2019, homeowners have asked their home remodeler to make the most of the existing bathroom space.
In addition, the visual appeal of the bathroom remodel complements the relaxation theme. Neutral colors paired with wood were trendy in 2019. This may come in the form of white counters or wood vanities or gray flooring and walls, the top two trends last year.
Accentuating Light Play
Homeowners are now also waking up to the importance of natural light, or at least playing with what’s available. Mirrors had become in demand as of late, with 77 percent of homeowners installing at least one when they remodel the bathroom.
Using natural lighting is also a timeless classic. If you’re looking for light play, consider contacting window replacement companies—such as ours—to install a window in your bathroom that can allow light but still keep your privacy.
